Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards, while placing material in the storage area: (a) On or about October 15, 2015 and at times prior, for employees exposed to potential crushing hazards while placing material in a storage area where a water damaged wooden drop ceiling was being temporarily supported by sections of 2 x 4 lumber at 207 Main Street in Mobridge, South Dakota. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to consult with an expert familiar with the International Property Maintenance Code (2012) as incorporated by reference within the International Building Code (2015). IPMC 2012 Paragraph 306.1.1 states that Where any of the following conditions (6.2 Wood Deterioration) cause the component or system to be beyond its limit state, the component or system shall be determined as unsafe and shall be repaired or replace to comply with the International Building Code as required for existing buildings.
