29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems:  (a) On or about October 21, 2015, at a job site located at 1914 Main Street in Kansas City, MO, workers were exposed to fall hazards of greater than 5 stories while working on roof trusses directly at the building's uppermost edges without any type of fall protection system being in place or in use at the time of the inspection.  (b) On or about October 21, 2015, at a job site located at 1914 Main Street in Kansas City, MO, workers were exposed to fall hazards of greater than 6 feet due to the existence of an unguarded open sided balcony on the west (back) side of the building.  The balcony did have a caution tape erected along approximately two-thirds of its exposed edges, but the caution tape was near the edges and not set back at least 6 feet as required by standards when caution tapes are used in lieu of guardrails.   Abatement certification is required for this Item.  Use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.  NOTE:  IN ADDITION TO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM.  FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1,000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
