29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.    On or about November 10, 2015, the employer did not ensure that employees operating a Braun NL Series Wheel Chair Lift (Model #NL9181B) on a 2008 Ford HD Van in the parking lot of the employers facility were protected from caught-in-between hazards associated with the folding function of the lift during lift operation.      Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to:    1) Train employees on the awareness of caught-in-between hazards while operating the wheel chair lift.   2) Repair the rocker switch that operates the Fold & Unfold function per manufactures recommendations.   3) Follow manufactures Operator's Manuel which requires if any lift component does not operate as outlined in the operator's manual, discontinue lift use immediately and contact manufacture.  4) During inspection of the lift, replace missing, worn or illegible decals per manufactures replacement decals.
