29 CFR 1926.100(a): Employees working in areas where there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, or from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shock and burns, shall be protected by protective helmets. Employees performing residential roofing operations were exposed to struck by hazards while employees handed plywood sheets to the second level from the first level. The employer failed to mandate the use of hard hats. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item.

29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. Employees performing commercial roofing operations were exposed to a 11.9 foot fall when the employer failed to ensure that fall protection was utilized. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
