29 CFR 1910.303(b)(1)(ii): Electrical equipment was not free from recognized hazards, based on the mechanical strength and durability, including, for parts designed to enclose and protect other equipment, the adequacy of the protection thus provided: a) On or about November 19, 2015, the employer did not ensure that wire nuts used to splice 240 volt electrical conductors together to power the heater bands on the extruder on line 23 were in a protective box or enclosure to prevent them from being exposed to physical contact and damage. The employer did not assure that employees operating the extruder were protected from live electrical parts. Note: Violation changed to low/lesser gravity during informal settlement.
