29 CFR 1910.255(b)(4): All press welding machine operations, where there was a possibility of the operator's fingers being under the point of operation, were not effectively guarded by use of a device such as an electronic eye safety circuit, two hand controls or protection similar to that prescribed for punch press operation in 29 CFR 1910.217: On December 21, 2015 during normal operations the employer had an employee operating welding machine 151 to weld nuts onto a stamped steel part used in the frame design for auto seats. The welding machine was guarded by a presence sensing device initiation (PSDI) also known as a light curtain ; the employer is failing to protect the employees from amputation hazards associated with inadequate machine guarding as in this instance where the employee was injured when the light curtain failed to prevent the cycling of the welder resulting in an amputation to the employee's right index finger.
