29 CFR 1910.134(d)(1)(i): Selection of appropriate respirators was not based on the respiratory hazard(s) to which the worker was exposed and user factors that affect respirator performance and reliability: a. On or about January 6, 2016, at the fabrication shop, employees were required to wear Gerson 6200 half face negative pressure respirators with Gerson 8101, 8201, 8301 cartridges while cutting and polishing granite countertops and the employer did not select and provide appropriate respirators for use based on the respiratory silica hazard to which employees were potentially exposed. Natural Gallery Granite Direct, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.134(d)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1017198, citation number 1, item number 2d and was affirmed as a final order on June 11, 2015, with respect to a workplace located at 720 Fentress Blvd. Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, FL 32114.

On or about January 06, 2016, at the fabrication shop, employees did not perform a user seal check each time they put on a Gerson 6200 half face negative pressure respirators while cutting and polishing granite countertops. The employer did not provide training and information on how to check the seals of the respirator as required on Appendix B-1 of 29 CFR 1910.134 or the manufacturer.
