29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chis and sparks: Cable Coil area: The rotating starter guide, secured on a metal rod that was connected to the drive collar of a "Home Made" wire winding machine was not guarded, exposing employees to the hazards created by a rotating part and/or winding wire. On or about January 26, 2016, the wire that was being hand fed into the starter guide of the above machine ensnared on the operator's left middle finger, and the operator sustained finger amputation at the first joint from the incident.
