OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing for likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: Employees engaged in material handling activities in the Fab Shop by the big machines area were exposed to struck-by hazards in that hooks on the 10-Ton R&M overhead cranes were not provided with safety latches. Among other means, one feasible and acceptable methods to abate this hazard is to install safety latches on the hooks as required by Section 2-1.14.5, Hooks, of ASME 30.2-2001.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one-fourth inch: Employees engaged in grinding activities at the blue Baldor bench grinder in the middle of the Fab Shop by the tool storage area were exposed to struck-by hazards in that the distance from the abrasive wheel to the adjustable tongue guard was found to be approximately 1.5 inches on the right side. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at time of inspection, no certification is required.
