29 CFR 1910.184(e)(1): Sling identification. Alloy steel chain slings shall have permanently affixed durable identification stating size, grade, rated capacity, and reach. a) Melt Deck - An employee used an alloy steel chain hoist to move materials to the furnace for melting. The alloy steel chain sling did not have permanently affixed identification as required, observed on or about 2-11-16. Abatement certification required.

OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): a) The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a hazard from molten metal. a) The Melt Deck - An employee stood about 12.5 feet away from a furnace containing molten metal while waiting for the melt during the melting operation. Lines were not in place to indicate the extent of the hazard zone, thereby exposing the employees to the hazard of severe burns from molten metal eruption/splashing, observed 5-03-16. Abatement certification required.
