29 CFR 1910.176(b): Storage of material created a hazard: a) Metropolitan Glass at 6400 Franklin Street, Denver, CO 80229: On or before 3/7/16, the employer did not ensure that vertical glass panes were stored in a safe and secure manner. Employees were handling eight vertical glass panes, each measuring 47 3/4 inches high x 121 3/8 inches wide, that were shipped in one wooden crate. Two employees manually moved the glass panes, one at a time, from the vertical wooden crate to an adjacent rack. A third employee was attaching a suction cup near the middle of a glass pane that was on this adjacent rack. A fourth employee, working with an arm in a cast, was standing to the side of the wooden crate to support the remaining vertical glass panes. These remaining glass panes tipped over and struck the third employee. The glass shattered, causing lacerations and a fracture. Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards caused by the unsafe handling of the glass panes on the wooden crate.
