OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of contacting a rotating saw blade: (a) Greenhouse 1, Bay 3 - Employees used a Black & Decker Firestorm FS210LS 10" table saw to rip 2x6 wooden boards, approximately 15 inches long, into 2x2 pieces for use in making wooden tops for manually propelled metal carts used to transport plants. The blade of the hand-fed table saw was not guarded, exposing employees who operated the saw to the hazard of contacting the rotating saw blade, as occurred on or about March 7, 2016 when an employee suffered an amputation injury to the middle finger of the left hand after contacting the unguarded rotating saw blade.

OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of kickback: (a) Greenhouse 1, Bay 3 - Employees used a Black & Decker Firestorm FS210LS bench top table saw to rip 2x6 wooden boards, approximately 15 inches long, into 2x2 pieces for use in making wooden tops for manually propelled metal carts used to transport plants. This hand-fed table saw did not have a riving knife and did not have an anti-kickback device, exposing employees who operated the saw to the hazard of kickback, on or about March 7, 2016. Corrected during the inspection.
