Employees shall be trained in and familiar with the safety-related work practices required by 1910.331 through 1910.335 that pertain to their respective job assignments. a) On March 11, 2016 an employee removed a fuse from its holder in a 277 volt lighting system and was not trained in electrical safety related work practices including but not limited to 29 CFR 1910.331 through 1910.335.

29 CFR 1910.333(a)(1): "Deenergized parts." Live parts to which an employee may be exposed shall be deenergized before the employee works on or near them, unless the employer can demonstrate that deenergizing introduces additional or increased hazards or is infeasible due to equipment design or operational limitations. Live parts that operate at less than 50 volts to ground need not be deenergized if there will be no increased exposure to electrical burns or to explosion due to electric arcs. On March 11, 2016 the 277 volt lighting system was not de-energized during the removal of a fuse from its housing, which in turn exposed an employee to electrical live parts.

29 CFR 1910.335(a)(1)(i): Employees working in areas where there are potential electrical hazards shall be provided with, and shall use, electrical protective equipment that is appropriate for the specific parts of the body to be protected and for the work to be performed. Note: Personal protective equipment requirements are contained in subpart I of this part. On March 11, 2016 while removing a fuse from an energized 277 volt lighting system protective equipment (electrical rated gloves) was not worn exposing the employee to energized parts.
