29 CFR 1910.23(c)(3): Regardless of height, open-sided floors, walkways, platforms, or runways above or adjacent to dangerous equipment, pickling or galvanizing tanks, degreasing units, and similar hazards shall be guarded with a standard railing and toe board. a. On or about May 10, 2016, employees in the slitter department were required to use or work with machinery where standard railing was not adequately guarded on all exposed sides. There was a 1 foot gap between railing and I-Beam post. Thereby exposing employees to a 15 foot 11 inch fall hazard.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. Production Floor- On or about May 10, 2016, employees were required to operate a 24" slitter machine with an unguarded re-coiler that rotates upon a cylindrical drum. Thereby exposing employee(s) to cuts, lacerations, and amputation hazards. b. Production Floor- On or about May 10, 2016, employees were required to operate a 36" slitter machine with an unguarded scrap winder and hydraulic moving table. Thereby exposing employees to cuts, lacerations, and amputation hazards.
