29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about June 21, 2016, the employer failed to provide effective guarding on the Viking Nail Machine (Champion QC 306) located in the main plant. An employee was observed reaching in to the machine while it was in operation so that he could push down the wood slat that was just in front of the wood slat that was being automatically nailed by the machine. The employee was exposed to the point of contact hazard of the nails and was within inches of the nails.
