29 CFR 1926.55(a): Employee(s) were exposed to material(s) at concentrations above those specified in the Threshold Limit Values of Airborne Contaminants for 1970 of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists: On or about June 23, 2016, an employee conducting tuck pointing activities was exposed to respirable dust containing crystalline silica quartz above the 8-hour time weighted average limit. a) A employee grinding mortar joints (tuck pointing) using a hand grinder was exposed to silica, crystalline quartz (respirable) at an 8-hr time-weighted average level of 18.65 mppcf, approximately 1.8 times the limit of 10.42 mppcf; this limit was established to prevent silicosis. The employee worked in an aerial lift using a hand grinder equipped with a dust shroud connected to a vacuum. The exposure level is derived from a sample collected over a 430 minute period, assuming 0 exposure for the remaining 50 minutes.
