OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to excessive heat levels while working indoors on the production floor and mezzanine area for 10 hour shifts adjacent to heat sources, such as flat iron machines, dryers, and washing machines, that could cause employees to become sick, and in some cases did result in heat related illnesses.    a) Hospital Central Services - On or about July 27, 2016, employees working in the New Flat Iron Area performing job duties such as feeding the Flat Iron Machine with sheets were exposed to excessive heat throughout the day with an hourly time weighted average heat exposure of 90.6°F wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT), exposing employees to heat related illnesses .     b) Hospital Central Services - On or about July 27, 2016, employees working in the Soil Sort Department performing job duties such as sorting soiled laundry were exposed to excessive heat throughout the day with an hourly time weighted average heat exposure of 92.1°F wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT, clothing adjusted), exposing employees to heat related illnesses.    c) Hospital Central Services - On or about July 27, 2016, employees working in the Old Flat Iron Area performing job duties such as feeding the Flat Iron Machine with sheets were exposed to excessive heat throughout the day with an hourly time weighted average heat exposure of 88.4°F wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT), exposing employees to heat related illnesses.    Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date.  The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
