29 CFR 1926.651(j)(2): Protection was not provided by placing and keeping excavated or other materials or equipment at least 2 feet (.61m) from the edge of excavations, or by the use of retaining devices that were sufficient to prevent materials or equipment from falling or rolling into excavations, or by a combination of both if necessary:  (a)  Along an excavation being dug in sandy soil along North side of West Beach Boulevard (U.S. Highway 90) in Long Beach, Mississippi at Location:  N 30.348889, W -89.139167 - On or about July 28, 2016 employees making repairs to a Center Point Gas line in a 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 foot deep excavation which measured ~12 feet wide (North to South) by ~24 feet (East to West) were not fully protected from sliding sand and spoil due to the spoil piles along the North side of the excavation, and along the trench going West, not being stored at least 2 feet away from the face of the excavation.
