29 CFR 1910.176(a): Use of mechanical equipment. Where mechanical handling equipment is used, sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passageways shall be kept clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. a. On or about August 16, 2016, at the above referenced location, employees working in the "back room" were required to use mechanical material handling equipment while maneuvering stored and / or received product on a daily basis. The employer failed to ensure that all aisle and passageways were provided with safe and / or sufficient clearances in accordance with the aforementioned OSHA standard. Employees were thereby exposed to struck-by, caught-between, and tripping hazards associated with poor housekeeping. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
