29 CFR 1910.184(d): Inspections. Each day before being used, the sling and all fastenings and attachments shall be inspected for damage or defects by a competent person designated by the employer. Additional inspections shall be performed during sling use, where service conditions warrant. Damaged or defective slings shall be immediately removed from service. a. On or before August 24, 2016, where employees used a chain sling assembly to lift blow out preventers and related equipment, an inspection if the sling was not conducted daily and the damaged sling was not removed from service, thereby exposing the employees to a struck-by hazard.
