Employees were provided non-NIOSH certified nuisance dust masks, SAS Safety Model 2985, for non-mandatory usage throughout the facility. The use of a non-certified NIOSH respirator potentially creates a hazard to the employee because the nuisance dust mask may not be capable of providing appropriate respiratory protection.
