Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by: The employer is failing to prevent employee exposure to struck-by hazards. The condition was most recently observed on or about 10/11/2016, at 378 Luther Avenue, Saint Louis, Missouri. Inside the north end of the Machine Shop, a shelving unit, two tiers high, was not anchored to the floor to prevent an unplanned collapse. Items stored on the shelves include, palletized rubber gaskets for box car doors and air hoses. One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to anchor each shelving unit with a sufficient number of column base plates and anchor bolts as required by ANSI MH16.1-2012, paragraph 1.4.7. DISCLAIMER: a/ The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA. b/ The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method.
