29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer is failing to protect employees from the hazards associated with lacerations, broken bones and potential amputations. During routine fabrication operations, employees, including, but not limited to, saw operators and baggers are exposed to these potential hazards from the Butcher Boy style band saws. While pulling pieces of cut meat from the back side of the saw baggers have received amputations due to the inadequate guard on the blade. One instance, which occurred on or about September 23rd, 2016 involved a band saw in the facility located at 555 S. Stuhr Rd. Grand Island, NE.
