29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Corner of Sloan Street and Davis Street: Employees were observed feeding tree branches into a Vermeer wood chipper Model Number BC1800A, without adequate guarding. In the event that an employee would be drawn into the chipper rollers, the control handle located 5 feet way could not be reached. Another form of guarding or control such as a stop bar or extending the distance to the rollers by lengthening the back metal tray is needed to comply. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED
