OSH ACT of 1970 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to caught in hazards of the rotating shaft of the manual lathe while sanding a shaft using abrasive strips (emery cloth). On or about November 8, 2016 in the Production Area, the employee was using their gloved right hand while polishing a metal shaft on the BMP Voghera Lathe. The employee was holding the abrasive material across the rotating part. The employee came in contact with the rotating part, and became entangled in the machine. The employee sustained significant hand and arm injuries. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
