29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE):    Peachstate Hospitality, Inc. DBA Fairfield Inn and Suites, Warner Robins, GA- Maintenance employees were required to remove wallpaper containing toxic fungal contamination (mold) in the meeting room;  and housekeeping /front desk employees were exposed to toxic fungal contamination(mold) while cleaning up after the wallpaper removal and also cleaning several  guest rooms that contained mold.  The employer did not assess the workplace for personal protective equipment (PPE) and did not ensure that employees wore the required PPE, on or about October-November 2016.     Such employees should receive training on proper clean up methods, personal protection, and potential health hazards.  PPE should include, but is not limited to, respiratory protection, gloves, and eye protection.    Please refer to New York City Department of Health-"Guidelines on Assessment and Remediation of Fungi in Indoor Environments" for reference on mold.     In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

29 CFR 1910.141(a)(4)(ii): Wastes were not collected and removed as often as necessary to maintain the place of employment in a sanitary condition:    Peachstate Hospitality, Inc. The contaminated material was not removed from the building in a sealed plastic bag to maintain sanitary conditions, on or about October-November 2016.
