In addition to paragraph (b) of this section, the employer must ensure standard stairs: 29 CFR 1910.25(c)(2): (2) Have a maximum riser height of 9.5 inches (24 cm). a. On or before March 10, 2017, where employees used a stairway to gain access to the mezzanine, the first step of the stairway was missing requiring employees to step up or down 14 inches, thereby exposing employees to fall hazards.

On or before March 10, 2017, where employees worked from the mezzanine of the special order building, the employees were not protected from falls, thereby being exposed to an 8 foot, 4 inch fall hazard.
