Otherwise, the employer must provide an atmosphere-supplying respirator.): Worksite: When the employer supplied workers with half-mask elastomeric respirators, the employer did not have a change schedule when the respirator was not equipped with End of Service Life Indicators on the cartridges.

29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i): The employer shall not permit respirators with tight-fitting facepieces to be worn by employees who have: (A): Facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interferes with valve function: Worksite: An employee who was supplied a half-mask elastomeric respirator by the employer was allowed to wear the device with excessive facial hair. Such facial hair would adversely affect the face-to-facepiece seal and negate any protective factor offered by the respirator.

29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): Respirators were not stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals or were not packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve: Worksite: When the employer supplied at least one employee with a half-mask elastomeric respirator, it was not stored in a manner that protected it from damage, dust, contamination, and environmental degradation. The Superintendent stated that the respirator he supplied to a Laborer was stored hanging in the back of his supply truck.
