Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. The employer is failing to ensure employees are protected from fall hazards greater than four feet. This most recently occurred at 37831 205th Street, Columbus, Nebraska on or about March 19th, 2017 when employees stood on multiple elevated surfaces including, but not limited to, an industrial exhaust fan and school bus roof to install plastic sheeting on greenhouses without protection from falling. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: i) Utilize a scaffolding system allowing employees to work from a solid elevated foundation with fall protection systems in place. iii) Train employees on fall hazards, as well as the methods and procedures to minimize these hazards. iv) Develop and implement a facility fall protection program ensuring employees are aware of fall hazards, as well as the methods and procedures to minimize these hazards..
