29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system. a) Benford Lane, Fox Run, Edgewater Park, NJ: On or about 03/22/2017, a B F Plumbing Inc. employee was working in an excavation, installing a residential connection with the previously installed sewer line. The excavation was 7 feet deep, made in sandy soil and had nearly vertical side walls. The employee was not protected from cave-ins by any means.

29 CFR 1926.651(j)(2): Protection was not provided by placing and keeping excavated materials at least 2 feet from the edge of excavations. a) Benford Lane, Fox Run, Edgewater Park, NJ: On or about 03/22/2017, a B F Plumbing Inc. employee was working in an excavation, installing a residential connection with the previously installed sewer line. The excavation was 7 feet deep, made in sandy soil and had nearly vertical side walls. The employee was exposed to hazards due to the excavation spoils pile being located directly at the edge of the side walls.
