29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1): In any workplace where respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employee or whenever respirators are required by the employer, the employer shall establish and implement a written respiratory protection program with worksite-specific procedures. The program shall be updated as necessary to reflect those changes in workplace conditions that affect respirator use. The employer shall include in the program the following provisions of this section, as applicable: 1910.134(c)(1)(I) through 1910.134(c)(1)(ix). On or about April 12, 2017, employees performing work activities in the Cutting Room (aka "the pit") were exposed to respirator stressors when required to wear 3M tight fitting, half mask respirators while conducting routine job duties and the employer had not established and implemented a written respiratory protection program. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

On or about April 12, 2017, employees performing work activities in the Cutting Room (aka "the pit") were exposed to respirator stressors when required to wear 3M tight fitting, half mask respirators while conducting routine job duties and the employer had not provided medical evaluations to employees prior to their use to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator. 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A): Respirators with tight-fitting facepieces were worn by employees who had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the face piece and the face or that interfered with valve function. On or about April 12, 2017, an employee performing work activities in the Cutting Room (aka "the pit") was required to wear a 3M tight fitting, half mask respirator with facial hair that broke the seal of the respirator while conducting routine job duties. The employer failed to ensure all employees that wore respirators were clean shaven to ensure facial hair did not come between the sealing surface of the respirator and the face. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
