29 CFR 1910.303(b)(6): Deteriorating agents. Conductors and/or equipment were located in damp or wet locations, and/or were exposed to gases, fumes, vapors, liquids and other agents that had a deteriorating effect on the conductors and/or equipment and were not identified for use in that operating environment: a) 15 Broad Street, Hudson, MA 07149, basement plating room; On or about April 27, 2017, the employer did not ensure that electrical equipment was designed for use in a damp, corrosive environment. Junction boxes and circuit breakers were found to be heavily corroded due to the environment within the space, increasing the likelihood of electric shock or fire. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.305(g)(1)(iv)(A): Flexible cords and/or cables were used as a substitute for the fixed wiring of a structure: a) 15 Broad Street, Hudson, MA 07149, basement plating room; On or about April 27, 2017, the employer did not ensure that flexible cords were not used as a substitute for the fixed wiring of the structure. The employer used flexible cords on a permanent junction box on the ceiling in the center of the plating room, and used flexible cords to power a box fan that was hung from the ceiling in the plating room. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

Employees were exposed to hazards from two unlabeled stock pots that contained unidentified chemicals that were located on the floor of the basement plating room. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
