Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. Alan Kowalski Masonry Contractor, Inc. project site located at 607 3rd St. Wausau, WI: on and about May 12, 2017, employees were exposed to multiple hazards, including but not limited to struck by and inhalation, while cutting an opening in a masonry wall without appropriate eye, face, or respiratory protection.

29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1): In any workplace where respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employee or whenever respirators are required by the employer, the employer shall establish and implement a written respiratory protection program with worksite-specific procedures. The program shall be updated as necessary to reflect those changes in workplace conditions that affect respirator use. The employer shall include in the program the following provisions of this section, as applicable: 29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1)(viii): Training of employees in the proper use of respirators, including putting on and removing them, any limitations on their use, and their maintenance; Alan Kowalski Masonry Contractor, Inc. project site located at 607 3rd St. Wausau, WI: On and about May 12, 2017, employees were exposed to silica dust while cutting a wall opening in a masonry wall when they had not been trained to properly select and use respirators in that the employer provided N95 dust masks to employees who had facial hair interfering with the fit of the masks.
