29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operator(s) and other employees from hazard(s) created by rotating parts: (a) In the maintenance shop - The Kalamazoo horizontal band saw was inadequately guarded, in that the unused portion of the rotating blade was not provided with a guard to protect the operator from inadvertent contact with the blade. During the period between June 1, 2017 and June 14, 2017, an employee operated the Kalamazoo horizontal band saw to cut a steel bar. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one-fourth inch: (a) In the maintenance shop - The Rockwell grinder, pedestal mounted, was not equipped with a properly adjusted tongue guard. The opening measurement between the abrasive wheel and tongue guard was over one-half inch. During the period between June 1, 2017 and 14 June 2017, an employee used the grinder to grind steel. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
