29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about 6/21/2017; the employer did not ensure that employees operating a Cincinnati Cost Cutter Mechanical Shear, serial no. L3184, located on the main shop floor within the facility, were clear of the machines backside before operating it. Employees kneeling down and situated in the back of the shear while catching parts as they were cut were exposed to an amputation hazard. b) On or about 6/21/2017; the employer did not ensure that employees operating a belt sander (commonly referred to as a knife sander) in the grinding/finishing room within the facility were protected from an ingoing nip point hazard in that the belt and pulleys were un-guarded. c) On or about 6/21/2017; the employer did not ensure that employees operating a Jet drill press, serial no. KS16046, on the main shop floor within the facility were protected from a caught-in hazard in that the chuck and rotating shaft were un-guarded.
