29 CFR 1915.152(b): The employer did not assess its work activity to determine whether there were hazards present, which necessitate the employee's use of personal protective equipment. USCG Cutter Munro, Berth 2, Coast Guard Island: Employees are required to wear various types of PPE such as, protective body, hand, face, head and foot wear when working aboard the Munro. A written hazard assessment has been performed but was deficient in the following elements: 1. Address the specific shade protection requirements for both welding and fire watch operations. 2. Evaluate noise levels produced by needle gun operations to determine if a hearing conservation program is needed and to ensure hearing protection is adequate. See 29 CFR 1910.95. 3. For employees using compressed air (pg. 6 of 26 of JHA), add to the hazard assessment that compressed air shall not be used for self cleaning, which can cause an and embolism.
