Each employee engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels was not protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest systems. On 7/25/2017, employees from Lebeau & Sons Custom Painting, Inc. were painting the trim beneath a gable on the front of a two-story residence located at 314 Wilmer Valley Drive in Wentzville, MO. They were not utilizing guardrail systems, a safety net system, or personal fall arrest systems. The employees were observed on the roof and working from a ladder positioned on the roof of the building without fall protection, exposing them to a fall to the ground below.

29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4): Ladders were not used only for the purpose for which they were designed. On 7/25/2017, employees from Lebeau & Sons Custom Painting, Inc. were painting the trim beneath a gable on the front of a two-story residence located at 314 Wilmer Valley Drive in Wentzville, MO. The employees bridged the ladder across two gables, similar to a pick board, to facilitate painting trim beneath the second story gable. They were not using a ladder for the purpose in which it was designed.
