Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to caught in hazards:     a) On or about August 10, 2017, in the Tool Room, the Craftsman vertical band-saw, model #113.247.410, serial #7258.M0030, used by employees to cut plastic prototype parts, was not equipped with a mechanism to prevent the saw from automatically restarting upon restoration of power after a power failure.    Among other methods, one method of feasible abatement would be to follow the guidelines in the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B11.10  2003, Safety Requirements for Metal Sawing Machines, Section 6.11 Machine Starting.  Incorporate a type of drive motor starter that will disconnect the drive motor to the power source in the event of control voltage or power system failure.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding were not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:       a) Tool Room - On or about August 10, 2017, the Clausing Drill Press, model #16 VC-1, serial #510227, was not equipped with an enclosure guard to protect employees from the rotating chuck.    b) Tool Room - On or about August 10, 2017, the Craftsman drill press, was not equipped with an enclosure guard to protect employees from the rotating chuck.
