29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. On or about October 16, 2017, during the removal of a front façade gable during the remodeling of a commercial building, located at 18324 Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, the employer did not ensure two employees working from a building roof (walking/working surface) were protected from a fall of approximately 21.5 feet, by utilizing a guardrail system, safety net system, and/or personal fall arrest system.
