29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): Where portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder's length allows, the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface being accessed: a) U.S. Post Office 211 W. Main St., Covington, VA 24426: On or about January 23, 2018, employees used a portable extension ladder that extended to the main building roof, to access both the main building roof and the garage roof. Employees stepped to/from the garage roof from/to the ladder with an approximately 3 feet gap between the garage roof and the rungs of the ladder at heights approximately 12' above the ground, exposing employees to fall hazards. Abatement documentation and certification is not required for this item. CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION.
