On or about February 2, 2018, employees were exposed to an unguarded chain and sprocket on the HMT Manufacturing, Inc. laminator drive motor located in the building room.

29 CFR 1910.213(c)(3): Each hand-fed circular ripsaw shall be provided with non-kickback fingers or dogs so located as to oppose the thrust or tendency of the saw to pick up the material or to throw it back toward the operator. They shall be designed to provide adequate holding power for all the thicknesses of materials being cut.    On or about February 2, 2018, a SCM SI 16 W sliding panel ripsaw was not equipped with a non-kickback fingers or dogs to prevent material from being thrown back toward the operator.

29 CFR 1910.213(h)(1): The upper hood shall completely enclose the upper portion of the blade down to a point that will include the end of the saw arbor. The upper hood shall be constructed in such a manner and of such material that it will protect the operator from flying splinters, broken saw teeth, etc., and will deflect sawdust away from the operator. The sides of the lower exposed portion of the blade shall be guarded to the full diameter of the blade by a device that will automatically adjust itself to the thickness of the stock and remain in contact with stock being cut to give maximum protection possible for the operation being performed.    On February 6, 2018, an OMGA Radial Arm Saw located in the frames and louvers department was utilized to cut sticks with the automatically adjusting lower blade guard removed.

29 CFR 1910.213(p)(4): Belt sanding machines shall be provided with guards at each nip point where the sanding belt runs on to a pulley. These guards shall effectively prevent the hands or fingers of the operator from coming in contact with the nip points. The unused run of the sanding belt shall be guarded against accidental contact.    On or about February 6, 2018, a Ritter Manufacturing, Inc. belt sanding machine located in the building room did not have an ingoing nip point between the belt and pulley guarded.

29 CFR 1910.213(r)(4): The mention of specific machines in paragraphs (a) thru (q) and this paragraph (r) of this section, inclusive, is not intended to exclude other woodworking machines from the requirement that suitable guards and exhaust hoods be provided to reduce to a minimum the hazard due to the point of operation of such machines.    (a)  On or about February 6, 2018, an Omnitech Systems Inc. CNC Router located in the building room did not have suitable guards to prevent employees from accessing the point of operation and prevent access to the carriage pathway.    (b)  On or about February 6, 2018, a Delle Vedove finishing machine located in the finishing room did not have guards to prevent employees from accessing the point of operation from the brush standers and the rotating nut and spindles.
