General-duty citation text
29 CFR 1910.141(a)(3)(i): All places of employment shall be kept clean to the extent that the nature of the work allows. a) On or about March 28, 2018 all the surfaces sampled by Federal OSHA for mercury in the Dental Clinic tested positive for the presence of mercury. Measurable amounts of solid mercury residue was found on the waste mercury collection bucket lid and handle; on the lid of the waste amalgam collection jar and on the counter next to the waste collection jar. Employees working in and around the Dental Clinic are potentially at risk to coming into contact with and being exposed to mercury when handling or touching items contaminated with amalgam. Routine cleaning and disinfecting housekeeping practices did not adequately remove mercury/amalgam residue.
