29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation shall be protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with paragraph (b) or (c) of this section. Geoff Baumhardt Excavating LLC. project at N9901 Lakeshore Dr. Friendship, WI: On March 2, 2018, an employee was exposed to engulfment while working in a seven and a half foot deep, three foot wide, and seventy foot long trench that was not sloped or properly benched, and did not have a protective system in place.
