29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer is failing to protect employees from amputation hazards associated with using inadequately guarded shop equipment. The most recent occurrence of this was evident at the facility located at 7277 World Communications Dr. Omaha, NE where the employer has employees using the equipment in the shop to repair and create test equipment without having guarded against the amputation hazards. Instances include but are not limited to: i. Employees using the Delta Shopmaster Type 1 table top band saw to cut light weight metals and plastics when fabricating parts for test equipment without guarding the unused portion of the band saw blade above the table. ii. Employees using the Jet Belt Drive bench Lathe in the fabrication of parts and pieces used to repair and create test equipment without having a guard over the rotating shaft. iii. Employees using the Delta 16 speed model drill press in the fabrication and repair of test equipment without having a guard on the fast rotating chuck.
