29 CFR 1910.134(a)(2): A respirator was not provided by the employer to each employee when such equipment was necessary to protect the health of the employee: The employer did not provide respirators for employees with the following exposures: a) Presslines: A Pressman operating the press lines, which involved mixing solvents and pigments, was exposed to an airborne concentration of 2-butanone (MEK) at an 8 hour time-weighted average of 220ppm, which was above the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 200ppm without the use of feasible engineering controls to minimize exposure. The sampling was conducted for 473 minutes during one shift on 9/26/2018. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled period of time. b) Presslines: A Pressman apprentice operating the press lines, which involved mixing solvents and pigments, was exposed to an airborne concentration of 2-butanone (MEK) at an 8 hour time-weighted average of 260ppm, which was above the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 200ppm without the use of feasible engineering controls to minimize exposure.
