29 CFR 1926.652(e)(2)(i): Excavation of material to a level greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of the members of a support system was permitted where the system was designed to resist the forces calculated for the full depth of the trench. A) Job site, on or about June 11, 2018, a shielding system (trench box) being used in an excavation was installed 3 ½ to 4 feet above the bottom of the excavation, exposing employees to a cave-in below the shield system.
