29 CFR 1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(I): Flexible cords and cables shall be protected from damage. Sharp corners and projections shall be avoided. Flexible cords and cables may pass through doorways or other pinch points, if protection is provided to avoid damage. a. 8 Savona Court, Staten Island, NY The employer allowed flexible cords to be installed in areas where the cords were not protected from damage. Employees used flexible cords that were exposed to vehicular traffic when they were run across the road to power hand held drills and an air compressor. Violation observed on or about June 19, 2018

Flexible cords shall be connected to devices and fittings so that strain relief is provided which will prevent pull from being directly transmitted to joints or terminal screws. a. 8 Savona Court, Staten Island, NY The employer allowed flexible cords that did not have restraint to prevent pull from being directly pulled to the joints. Employees used flexible cords to power hand held tools and an air compressor that did not have proper restraint. Violation observed on or about June 19, 2018
