Construction Site: On or about July 24, 2018 , and at times prior, employees were exposed to cave in hazards while installing new sewer line in an unprotected excavation of approximately 6 feet in depth, with the spoil piles located on the edge of the excavation.

29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could have resulted in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems: a). Construction Site: On or about July 24, 2018 , and at times prior, employees were exposed to cave in hazards while installing new sewer line. Employees entered; an unprotected excavation of approximately 6 feet in depth, with near vertical wall, spoil piles located on the edge of the excavation, and of a Type "C" soil without the competent person conducting an inspection to address these hazards prior to the start of work.
