29 CFR 1926.100(a): Employees working in areas where there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, or from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shock and burns, shall be protected by protective helmets. a) On or about July 25, 2018, at the above referenced inspection site, employees engaged in residential roofing activities were not protected from overhead hazards when required. The employer failed to ensure employees wore protective helmets (hard hats) while performing ground operations such as material handling, and clean-up. Employees were thereby exposed to struck-by hazards from falling / flying material, tools, and debris. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1926.102(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation. a) On or about July 25, 2018, at the above referenced inspection site, employees engaged in residential roofing activities were not protected from falling / flying particles when required. The employer failed to ensure employees operating pneumatic nail guns wore eye protection while performing this task. Employees were thereby exposed to eye injuries from falling / flying particles. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1926.501(b)(13): Each employee(s) engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels were not protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system, nor were employee(s) provided with an alternative fall protection measure under another provision of paragraph 1926.501(b): a. On or about July 25, 2018, at the above referenced inspection site, employees engaged in residential roofing activities were not utilizing adequate fall protection to prevent injury in case of a fall from the roof. Employees were exposed to fall hazards in excess of 10 feet to the ground while using body belt restraints in close proximity to the open edge. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
