29 CFR 1910.1000(a)(2): Employees were exposed to an airborne concentration of carbon monoxide listed in Table Z-1 in excess of the 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) concentration of 50 parts per million (ppm): At the United States Steel Corporations Ironworks campus, a temporary work structure was constructed near Flare Stack #1s condensate drain discharge. a) On or about July 26th, 2018, an employee of Thermal Solutions, Inc. was exposed to a carbon monoxide concentration of approximately 1207.5 ppm while working in close proximity to Flare Stack #1. The exposure occurred over a 60 minute period, which equates to an 8-hour TWA of approximately 150.9 ppm. The carbon monoxide level was derived from blood carboxyhemoglobin levels. b) On or about July 26th, 2018, an employee of Thermal Solutions, Inc. was exposed to a carbon monoxide concentration of approximately 938.2 ppm while working in close proximity to Flare Stack #1. The exposure occurred over a 60 minute period, which equates to an 8-hour TWA of approximately 117.3 ppm. The carbon monoxide level was derived from blood carboxyhemoglobin levels.
